Eagles Outlast Liberty in Thriller to Stay Unbeaten

The Eagle Ridge Christian volleyball team faced their toughest test yet on Friday night, but ultimately outlasted Liberty Christian 3-2 in a back-and-forth 5-set thriller.

After splitting the first two sets, Liberty looked poised to hand Eagle Ridge their first loss after taking game three 25-20. But the Eagles showed their resolve, rallying to eke out a 25-22 victory in the fourth set to force a decisive game five.

The two conference foes went toe-to-toe in the final set, but junior outside hitter Kaylee Mason and the veterans of the team, Charlise Rhodes and Hallie Kilburn, took over late in the game to give Eagle Ridge a 22-20 advantage. After trading points.

“This was a battle and I’m really proud of how we stayed composed. We did not start out the way we wanted but the girls really dug deep and worked together as a team to pull off this win.” said head coach Kristen Martin. “Our experience pulled us through against a talented Liberty team.”

The win keeps Eagle Ridge unbeaten at 2-0 in conference play as they head on the road next Tuesday to face Crosspoint Christian. The Eagles look to bring the same intensity onto the court in their next upcoming game.
